The evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is the absolute heartbeat of Kashi. Every single evening, just after sunset, a group of young, highly trained priests perform a highly choreographed religious ceremony dedicated to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, Surya (Sun), Agni (Fire), and the entire universe.

During the summer months, the Aarti begins around 7:00 PM, while in the winter months (October to March), it shifts slightly earlier to around 6:30 PM. The entire ritual lasts for about 45 minutes. However, the ghat starts getting incredibly crowded by 5:00 PM. Thousands of pilgrims, foreign tourists, and photographers compete for a clear vantage point.

Securing the Best Viewpoint: Land vs. Water

• On the Steps (Ghats): You can sit directly on the steps of Dashashwamedh Ghat. It's completely free, but you must arrive at least two hours early to secure a frontline seat. The atmosphere here is electric, surrounded by chanting crowds and ringing bells.
• On a Boat (Recommended): Without a doubt, the most spectacular, unobstructed view of the fire ritual is from the water. Hundreds of boats align themselves parallel to the ghat. A shared boat seat generally costs between ₹150 - ₹300, while renting a private motorboat for your family can range from ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 depending on your negotiation skills.
